Who is Dom P?
Hailing from Corona, Queens, Dom P is a New York hip hop artist whose music blends the confidence and character of classic New York rap with the perspective of a new generation. Raised between 37th Avenue and Lefrak City, Dom grew up surrounded by the hustle, culture, style, and stories that define Queens. From an early age, music became part of his foundation, first through an uncle who introduced him to hip hop more deeply, and later through the life experiences that gave him something of his own to say.
Inspired by artists including 50 Cent, Biggie, Ma$e, Nas, Jay Z, Snoop Dogg, Nipsey Hussle, and The LOX, Dom P draws from New York's tradition of charisma, competition, storytelling, and individuality without trying to recreate the past. His sound pairs realism, wit, confidence, vulnerability, and ambition, creating music for people navigating relationships, setbacks, dreams, and the everyday grind of trying to build something bigger for themselves. At the center of it all is authenticity. Dom is not interested in chasing trends or creating an image that does not reflect his reality.
That philosophy comes to life on his debut project, OF THE ESSENCE, a body of work created between Brooklyn and Queens with producer and longtime collaborator WhatsGoodKev. Born during one of the most challenging periods of Dom's life, the project captures both sides of his personality, the celebratory and charismatic side as well as the introspective and determined side. Its sound and visuals pull listeners directly into his world through Queens hoodies, the 7 train, neighborhood staircases, streetlights, graffiti, food, friendships, ambition, and memories of growing up in New York.
Even his name reflects that philosophy. Dom P comes from Dominic Perez, while the “P” honors his father, known as Paperz, and carries a second connection to Dom Pérignon and the idea of celebration. For Dom, that celebration is not only about major accomplishments. It is about recognizing life's wins, surviving its losses, and creating moments worth remembering.
Ultimately, Dom P represents more than an artist chasing success. He represents the kid from an overlooked neighborhood determined to earn his crown without changing who he is. His goal is to build something timeless, create opportunities beyond himself, and inspire listeners to embrace their own identity instead of following whatever is popular. The music is the legacy, but the love, relationships, and impact left behind are what Dom P wants to last.
